Michael S. George, M.D.
Dr. Michael S. George is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also played linebacker on the football team. He then earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and later completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. George went on to obtain additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Vanderbilt University where he gained extensive experience in advanced shoulder and knee surgery. He also earned his certificate in Strategic Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University. Dr. George was one of the first doctors in Houston to earn the Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. George specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, advanced arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, distal biceps tendon repair, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, total and reverse shoulder replacement, and total knee replacement using robotic technology. He sees patients at the Willowbrook and Springwoods Village office locations.
Dr. George is the Chairman of the Board and Medical Director at TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital. He is the National Medical Director of the Total Joint Arthroplasty Service Line for United Surgical Partners (USPI). He has been active academically as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine as well as a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas at Houston. He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Dr. George treats professional rodeo cowboys as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine Team and has been a team physician for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and a Course Director for the Annual Justin Sports Medicine Rodeo Conference. He is a frequent medical expert for sportingnews.com and other media outlets.
Dr. George has done medical mission work performing total knee replacements in disadvantaged villages in Central and South America. His research has been published extensively in multiple orthopaedic journals and he was voted as one of the best doctors in Texas by Texas Monthly Magazine as well as one of Houston’s Top Doctors by H Texas Magazine.
